Dine on the Frontline.

Design Research / Strategy

  • Based on insights from a Design for America design research sprint, Dine On The Frontline is an initiative that provides frontline healthcare workers with discounted food from local Cincinnati restaurants.

  • In the midst of an international pandemic, how can we construct a system that responds to the mental health needs of frontline workers?

  • This initiative aims to provide nourishment after a long shift, connect frontline workers by facilitating community support, and spread important messages on how to process COVID-19-related stress.

The Problem Space…

University of Cincinnati’s Design for America (DFA) chapter is an interdisciplinary team that educates students on the human-centered design process and strives after social good in our local community. Research led by Marcus Djuhadi and Katie Van Gulick, with Paige Kingsley.

Starting in October of 2020, my Design for America sprint team identified an extreme problem space for frontline workers: the lack of healthy processing of daily COVID-19-related stressors. We recognized the vast scope of this project and aimed at implementation efforts that were feasible, but heavily based in human-centered research.

Using rapid ideation techniques, I generated many concepts including digital campaigns, apps, and displays in hospital settings. Finally, I landed on Dine On The Frontline for its feasibility and ability to provide tangible support to frontline workers.
